SK JP Rizzitelli is chairing this years Annual Christmas Essay Contest. JP will need your assistance with judging essays.
Our Annual VA Christmas Visit is just around the corner. Once again SK Vince Santilli will be our behind the scenes Santa, but he'll need help from as many elves helping hands as possible for packing and delivery!
As we have in the past, new or used clean clothing for men, women and children is also on Santa's list for our VA Visit. Chief Elf in charge of clothing is SK Leo Czajkowski. But this year's list for Santa has grown thanks to a wonderful idea SK John Walshe started last year new or used books and magazines in good condition will also be added to Santa's bag. To help defray Santa's expenses, SK Angelo Perusi is chairing the Westfield Works Wonders Fund-Drive and will also be counting on many hands to make light work. Remember, all money from this fund-drive goes directly to our Christmas VA Visit. Angelo will need help at "door 6" at the Trumbull Mall from 3 6 PM as well as the night of the event from 6 10 PM. |

Writing this on the Feast of All Saints the following occurs to me: At some point the early church considered martyrs as saints. Yet the original meaning of the Greek word "martyr" means "witness". Those who died for the faith gave witness with their very lives. Eventually the church came to realize that one can live for the faith and give witness as well.
We're all called to be saints. We're all called to be witnesses. We're all called to unity with our Lord, Jesus Christ.
As Knights we understand the strength, lesson and importance of "Unity". As "Sir Knights" we also understand the importance of witnessing every time we put on our regalia.
Currently, Supreme Knight Carl Anderson has reinvigorated the "In Solidarity With Our Bishops and Priests" campaign, asking us to be witnesses to the importance of our spiritual leaders.
Both our Supreme Knight, as well as all the Bishops of Connecticut (who are Brother Knights), are asking that we show strength in our faith, strength in our "unity" as we consider the elections to be held this month.
This Election Day we are being called to be witnesses for our faith, and our belief in "one nation, under God."
Particularly as Fourth Degree "Sir Knights" let us answer this call to witness. The Supreme Council says our primary purpose as Sir Knights is to foster the spirit of patriotism by promoting responsible citizenship and a love of and loyalty to our nation.
The Lord has graced us with an exciting time of opportunity to make a difference in our society as responsible citizens and Sir Knights of Columbus. This November 5th, let's get out the vote in "unity".
Vivat Jesus! Terry Morgan, FN

Knights of Columbus Leader Says North Americans Must Seek New Horizons In Spirit Of Columbus
(The following is a press release from Supreme Headquarters, 10/10/2002)
New Haven, CT Carl A. Anderson, supreme knight of the 1.6 million member Knights of Columbus, says that North Americans must not only honor the accomplishments of Columbus but follow his example and seek new challenges.
In his annual Thanksgiving Day radio address, Anderson says that the daring voyage of Columbus, patron of the 121-year-old Catholic family fraternal service organization, "captured the imagination of North Americans for generations." It inspired others to open new territories on the continent, expand man's knowledge, shape the course of history, and build "the great nations of North America," he says. These early explorers should be remembered along with Columbus on Thanksgiving Day, Anderson concludes.
The complete text of Anderson's address follows:
For those who have watched men walk on the moon, the voyage of Christopher Columbus may seem quaint. Yet, as the film The Perfect Storm makes clear, the ocean that Columbus crossed is anything but. The dangers faced by Columbus had much in common with the exploration of space. The people of his time believed that if you sailed too far you risked falling off the edge of the earth. Columbus was not only a daring sailor, he was a Renaissance man who pushed forward the boundaries of our knowledge a man who shaped history by his boldness. His achievement captured the imagination of North Americans for generations. Like him, they dared to be first to open new territories. Like him, they sought to expand man's knowledge. Like him, they shaped history by their courage, and for that we are thankful. Today is not only a time to honor the accomplishment of Columbus, but a time to honor the accomplishments of so many who came after him and built the great nations of North America.

GET OUT THE VOTE !
Knights of Columbus Supreme Knight Carl Anderson is urging Catholics, and all those who are pro-life, to be guided by their pro-life convictions in the upcoming elections.
"Respect for and protection of all human life, including the most vulnerable among us, is not just one value among others," Anderson said. "It is the standard by which we measure all other values. For this reason, while many other issues must be considered in any election, the pro-life issue must take first place. This election, I urge all those who are pro-life to help get out the vote, go to the polls and vote your pro-life convictions."
